After watching Ulric's prologue, I was wondering how you figure out what you need to roll for successes in attack/damage? I don't have the rulebook here, so I'm not sure what I'd even need to roll against.

Attack (unless stated otherwise) is usually Dex + Skill (Brawl, Melee, Firearms, etc...), difficulty 6. On the back of your character sheet, there should be a table with some common attacks that might have different rules.
Damage is attack successes - 1 + weapon damage (strength for brawl and melee, damage of the gun for firearms, etc), difficulty 6.

OK, cool. That makes sense, I think. I'm guessing difficulty can change based on circumstances and enemies?

Oh yes. Assume 6, unless I state otherwise.

Oh, one little clarification, she got it mostly right, but just in case: For damage dealing, it's successes on your attack roll - 1 + weapon modifier, which is normally strength plus something. Like for a claw attack I think it's strength + 2, which is why when I rolled for damage I used one less than my previous successes to start, then added 10 dice to that (8 strength + 2 for the claw attack). Make sure you check what your damage modifier is, or just get used to a few specific ones. Like claws are always +2, bite is always +1, but at a difficulty of 5 when you attack, little things like that. Learn what works good for you.

Details, details...
When in doubt, just ask for the roll.

I know some GMs use 10s as 2 successes, or 1 + extra roll, or just 1. Have you decided how you are running it in this campaign?

What I'm doing is that 10's explode. If you get a 10, reroll. If it's 6 or higher on the second roll, you get two successes, otherwise just one. 1's don't detract from your success, nor do 10's mean it explodes again. On average it'll be 1.5 successes. Two's a little excessive, but I don't think one is quite enough.
