"So... was Eclipses an absentee father for you as well?" James begins awkwardly.

"Well, I uh..." Ulric is caught a little off guard, but then seems to adjust to it. "Yeah, I guess so. I mean, he was around and took me to football games and stuff, but I don't think he was around as much as other fathers are... I guess it makes a lot more sense now. Busy out being a werewolf and all."

It's starting to look like it might rain, by the way...

((No! I melt in the water!))
"So uh, what was your mom like, then?"

"I don't remember her much. She died when I was very young." James says. "The pack has been more like my family."

"Even the gruff ones like the Arhoun from last night?" he says with a bit of a smile.

"Obviously, by family, I mean, the people you love, but don't necessarily like." James replies.

"I guess I kinda know what that's like... I mean, not quite like you, but somewhat. I was friends with all the guys on the football team, and we spent a lot of time together, and they were kinda like a family... There were definitely some of them I didn't like," he says with a smile, "But I don't really think I could say I loved them like actual family. The only people I really felt that way about were my Mom, Dad, Sven, and Fjorna..." Being a 13 year old who has quite recently suffered horrific deaths in his immediate family, he starts to tear up now that he actually thinks about it again.

James stares on blankly, unsure what to do. "Um..." He comes to a decision, moments later. "Well, I guess you've got us now..."

He sniffs once, then looks up with a sad smile. "Thanks. I'm really liking this family so far." He wipes his arm across his face, "Anyway... So, what do you think this rite of passage thing will be about for me?"

"To be honest, pain." James says. "More specifically, if you have the courage to overcome it. After what you've been through, I doubt it will be a problem."

"Yeah, really," he says jokingly as he looks down at some of his recent scars. Internally though, his mind says 'You know you only survived that first attack because mom and dad were there. You put up a good fight, but if it hadn't been for them, you'd be dead right now. And chances are, they won't be able to help when this trial starts...'

Sweet. My body doesn't sting quite as much as usual.
"Hey James, thanks for talking. I think I'm gonna go bother Chain-Breaker or one of the others so I can start training." (and after any comments from James, he'll do so)
