"I only wish it were that easy. Hierarchy around here isn't completely clean cut. I suspect there will be a lot of challenges for leadership... I can only hope that the Garou who gains it deserves it. As for finding Thorn... it may take some time..."

"Ahh... So, are all of the challenges going to be to the death, or is there some other way of deciding without further decimating the pack?"

He nods. "We'll see what happens."

Ulric will follow his Dad and keep doing whatever he can to help out until it comes time for the moot.

The rest of the day goes by very slowly. Everyone is very somber... some are edgy about the moot. No doubt this one will not be the party the last one was. Most people are tidying up the caern, others are mourning the dead.
Night falls, and the moot is called. The opening howl is a single, clear note of pure, heartwrenching sadness. No one joins the howl until the note is broken. Long, mournful tones mix for about five minutes. Many remain silent.
Your father approaches the center of the caern. "Tonight's moot will be somewhat informal, given the shortness of time since the last. We need to formally deal with the passing of our Grand Elder, as well as the passing of five of our bretheren. As the Master of the Challenge also passed last night, I will oversee those who wish to compete. I invite you to enter the circle if you wish to participate."
Chain-Breaker is sitting next to you. "This could get nasty..." he says under his breath as three Garou enter the circle.

"Is this just a submission contest, or will it be to the death?" he whispers to chain-breaker.

"With as many hits as we've taken, Eclipses will probably keep it to submission..."

"I sure hope so. Who do you think's gonna win outta this lot?"
Ulric settles in to watch, his elbows on his knees and his chin in his hands.

"The ugly one." says James. "Or the tall one."

"Well, of the three, I'd put my money on Fear-Striker, the tallest one. He has the most experience, and he has a somewhat decent head on his shoulders. He's very agressive, and I'm sure he wants the position pretty badly... I wouldn't count out Glory Harbinger, she's got just as much fight in her, and probably a bit more wisdom. Truth in Light might not be able to match either of them physically, but he could definitely outsmart them. It's going to be a tough call... not sure who I'd want as the elder, though."

Ulric will sit back and watch the fights, seeing if he can learn a few new tricks from observing. Part of him wants to step up and join them in the ring... Maybe just that urge for competition and a chance at victory, but at this point he understands that this is about more than just fun competition. It's entirely possible someone could still die in this contest, and he'd rather it not be him, as the young unexperienced pup. Besides, what the hell would he do as leader anyway? He has no idea how to run things.

After a very messy free-for-all, Glory Harbinger is declared the winner. You see a few kinda nifty moves, but they move very quickly.
"Figures Glory'd get it," Breaker says under his breath, "She's the daughter of the last elder. I hope she does half as well..."
Fear-Striker ends up with a consolation prize as Master of the Challenge.
